SUMMARY Diabetes may be viewed as a disease of accelerated cognitive aging. It is a risk factor for incident dementia, cognitive decline and cognitive dysfunction. Thus, ‘diabetes-related cognitive dysfunction’ may be viewed as another long-term complication of diabetes.
